This Privacy Policy explains how PetMate ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our mobile application. By using PetMate, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
• Account information: your email address and password (handled securely by our authentication provider), or your Google account details if you sign in with Google. - Profile information: your name, bio, and profile photo. - Pet information: your pet's name, breed, age, gender, bio, personality tags, and photos you upload. - Location data: if you enable location features (such as adding a location to your pet's profile or using Map Discovery), we collect approximate or precise device location, depending on the permission you grant. - Messages: content you send through in-app chat with matched users, including shared location links. - Device and push notification data: a device token used to deliver notifications, and basic device information (platform, OS version) for app functionality and crash diagnostics. - Usage data: general app interaction data (such as which features are used) collected via crash-reporting tools to help us fix bugs.
We use your information to: operate and improve the app; match you with other pets and owners; enable chat and meetup coordination between matched users; send push notifications about matches, messages, and likes; show your pet on Map Discovery if you opt in; investigate reports of abuse or policy violations; and maintain the security and stability of the app.
Location features are entirely optional. If you choose to add a location to your pet's profile or enable "Show me on the Map," your pet's approximate location may be shown to other users to help facilitate nearby matches. Your exact, precise coordinates are never displayed to other users — only an approximate position. You can disable location sharing for any pet at any time from that pet's profile.
We do not sell your personal information. Your pet's profile information (name, photos, bio) is visible to other users as part of the core matching functionality of the app. Your name and profile photo are visible to users you have matched with. We use trusted third-party service providers to operate the app, including Supabase (database and backend infrastructure) and Google Firebase (push notifications and crash reporting). These providers process data on our behalf and are contractually restricted from using it for their own purposes.
You may delete your account at any time from Settings. When you do, your profile is marked for deletion and permanently removed from our active database within 30 days. Messages and matches associated with a deleted account may be retained in an anonymized or removed form as needed to maintain the integrity of conversations with other users.
PetMate is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
We use industry-standard security practices, including encrypted data transmission and secure authentication, to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
You can edit or delete your profile and pet information at any time. You can disable location sharing per pet. You can block or report other users. You can delete your account entirely, which removes your data per the retention policy above.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
